I can't tell you enough how much I appreciate all the warmth and support I've received from so many people over the last few days. I've reconnected with old friends and been totally blown away by how much passion people are communicating to me about my crazy little game project here.
I'll be going live on Anthromancer's Facebook page in about 40 minutes (8pm CDT) and if you want to join me, we'll be doing a little 'random card' contest that my buddy Trevor thought up. We'll see how it goes!
Anyway, thank you so much for being a part of this story with me. I'll do everything I can to make sure it succeeds this time.

Whoa. It's the night of May 5th and I'm typing this about 13 hours after pressing 'launch' and taking our project live...and we've passed 38% of our funding goal. More than a third of our asking price in one day? That's exceptional! I am beyond thrilled. Early bird tier is still going for another...what, 10 hours? Wow.
If you spoke to me at all over the course of the day you may have heard that I wasn't really expecting this. I was trying really hard not to expect anything. It felt like a fool's errand to assume this would go well or poorly. I've worked really hard on arranging everything and I've found a team of exceptionally talented humans who have been willing to work alongside me - but there's still plenty that seemed to be working against us. Anthromancer doesn't have a huge following. We don't have a huge marketing budget. I've only recently begun meaningful outreach to a lot of people in the tabletop game and kickstarter communities. Plus, there's a pandemic going on out there and there are several people who I know would love to back this project (or back it at a higher level) who haven't been able to.
Knowing all of this and still seeing how many people were willing to share, to get the word out, to engage with and take on ambassador roles on our behalf...it just makes me feel like we have something special here. I feel happy and hopeful, grateful and small, like I'm one part of a whole organism that's coming into being. Monica, Jevion, and Sam asking me if they could post about Anthromancer in facebook groups; Trevor and Greg and Drachen sharing the link and sharing it again and all the kind messages and people, verbatim, telling me they "believe in me". That's a crazy feeling.
It's not over, of course! We've still got a long way to go and it seems like if I hold on to a little bit of worry I stay motivated and keep pushing.
One concern I currently have is that of stretch goals - we haven't planned for any and if this trajectory continues, we may want to talk about including them. But it's important to me that they don't feel tacked on or unfinished, and that's the main reason I didn't spend too much of my focus on setting them up to begin with. And maybe it's because unconsciously I didn't want to presume our own success? Is it reasonable to think that if we exceed our goal we can make this product a nicer one?
I would like to know what you, our backers and supporters, think. A lot of what I've read is that whether or not you're going to do stretch goals you need to communicate with your backers effectively and up front - and, frankly, I don't know what I'm doing. I just know that I believe in this, I want it to work, and I'm really happy to know that other people do, too. I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
Tomorrow I'll be posting about some of the awesome content we've got planned for this campaign, when our next livestreams are, other goodies, secrets, behind the scenes development stuff, things like that. My friend Ben S. is in the process of compiling the Mercenarium assets in Tabletop Simulator and I'm hoping some folks would like to hop on and learn the game with me while we chat on discord. Also! If you're not already there, hop into the Anthromancer Community discord and hang out! That's a great way to stay in touch with all of us, all at once. I kinda hop back and forth between sidebars and the community chat so, I'd love to see you there.
I think that's about it for update number 1. I am...just, wow. It's been a crazy day. I'm exhausted, I'm gonna sleep like a stone, and I can't wait to get up tomorrow and do it all some more. Thank you, so, so much, everyone. Today meant the world to me.
